2nd son. Baptised at Hutton, Somerset. Educated at The United Service College, Westward Ho!, Devon, 1900-4.

A professional singer 1908-14. Articled to Walter E. Tower, Architect, London. In 1930 living at Thornby, Northants, in private practice and as resident architect to Captain Arnold S. Wills of Thornby Hall.

In the Great War enlisted 1914 as a Trumpeter in Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles Yeo. Territory; 2nd Lieut. December 1914 Royal Field Artillery, 1st Lincolnshire Baty. Territ.; Capt. 1915 Royal Horse Artillery Warwickshire Baty. Territ.; was
employed in training various Batteries in England till Feb. 1918; and being unable to pass as fit for service overseas was invalided out of the Army in 1918.
