9st son. Born at the farm on the estate of Belmont aforesaid, 9 August and baptised 20 September 1834 at Wraxall. Educated at Charterhouse, London 1844-52; matric at Oxford (Exeter College) 2 June 1852. Died unmarried at St. Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex 6 January and was buried 13 January 1857 at Clifton Hampden. Memorial Inscription there. Will proved January 1857.
Left Oxford 1854 through bad health and went to Spain and Madeira with his brother John and in 1855 to Pau with his sister Mary. His diaries 1853-6 (2 volumes) are in possession of J.A. Gibbs. See also n14. A water colour drawing of him by Paul is in possession of F.L. Gibbs.
