Biography and Notes

Baptised 3 July 1897 at Newbold, Lancashire. Educated at Shrewsbury 1911-14 and Christ Church, Oxford, 1920-21. (Boulter Exhibition). Buried in Finchampstead churchyard.

Vice-President Oxford University Moot Club, 1921. Served in the Great War with the Royal Field Artillery in France and Mesopotamia, 1914-19 (British War Medal, and Allies' Victory Medal). Called to the Bar (Inner Temple) 1921. Contested Parliamentary Division of Mansfield co. Notts., 1929 as Conservative. Chairman of Coningsby Club, 1925-26. K.C. 1947; J.P. 1949-52; Special Commissioner for Trial of Matrimonial Causes 1953; County Court Judge 1961-66.
