Field Marshal Sir Roland Christopher Gibbs, GCB, CBE, DSO, MC, ADC, (Gen). Baptised 31 July 1921 at Barrow Gurney. Educated at Eton and RMC.

Field Marshal 1979. Served 1939-45 War in North
Africa, Italy and N.W. Europe. On the Staff in Ministry of Defence (1956-59); Washington (1962-63) and Chief of Staff, HQ Middle East (1966-67). Commander: 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment (1960-62); 16 Parachute Brigade (1963-66); British Forces Persian Gulf (1969-71); 1st British Corps B.A.O.R. (1972-74). Commander in Chief United Kingdom Land Forces (1974-76). Chief of the General Staff (1976-79). Colonel Commandant The Royal Green Jackets and The Parachute Regiment. ADC General to H.M. The Queen (1976-79). M.C. 1942; D.S.O. 1945; C.B.E. 1968; K.C.B. 1972; G.C.B. 1976.

Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire 1980. Regional Director of Salisbury Regional Board of Lloyds Bank Ltd. 1979. A Commissioner of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea (1980).
